Off the beat: Asuncion, Paraguay

Last year, while studying in Buenos Aires, Argentina, I decided to return to Asuncion, Paraguay. Paraguay, one of only two landlocked countries in South America is only a 2hr. flight from Buenos Aires. This country is not well known for being a tourist destination by seasoned travelers, but if you're in neighboring Argentina, it is definitely worth a try for 3 days.
While there's not much to see in Asuncion, there are certainly some points of interest. I recommend visiting the grave of the unknown Paraguayan soldier as well as the University.
When it comes to hotel accommodations, there's only one place that I would recommend. The Sheraton Asuncion. It's located on the main street of Asuncion and is located in the city's most prestigious neighborhood. Across the street from the hotel is one of Asuncion's most exclusive malls. The hotel offers a wonderful rooftop swimming pool over looking the city as well as a spa that offers signature treatments.
The staff at the Sheraton Asuncion are amongst the most pleasant, accommodating, and eager to please I have ever experienced throughout my many travels.
South America is known for the nightlife, so expect to have a great time in Asuncion. Remember, generally speaking, clubs don't open until 23:00 so make sure to take in a siesta before partying the night away. My recommendation is Coyote. This is THE nightspot for Paraguay's young, beautiful, famous, and fashionable crowd!
A weekend in Asuncion will never be forgotten, GUARANTEED!
